The official Halton crime map is Halton Regional Police Service’s interactive map of police calls for service, with addresses rounded to the nearest 100 block. Statistics Canada’s 2025 figures put the Halton Regional Police Crime Severity Index (CSI) at 30.61, about 2% lower than in 2024 and the lowest of the large Ontario police services in Statistics Canada’s table. That is well under half the Canadian figure of 75.0.
Data: Statistics Canada, police-reported crime statistics for 2025 (released 22 July 2026), Crime Severity Index for police services in Ontario. Figures are for the Halton Regional Police service area (Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills); Statistics Canada does not publish a separate crime rate for this area in the tables we use. Map features described below were checked on the Halton Regional Police website. Comparisons and percentages not in the release are our own arithmetic. Updated 5 October 2026.
What the official Halton crime map shows
Halton Regional Police publish an interactive crime map covering Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills, with separate desktop and mobile versions. According to the police service:
- What it maps: police calls for service in Halton region. The service notes that “not every call is criminal in nature” and some information cannot be released.
- Locations: addresses are rounded to the nearest 100 block. Halton’s own example: an incident at 529 Name Street would appear as 500 Name Street.
- Exclusions: information on sex offenders is not made public.
- Disclaimer: the map gives general information and comes with no guarantee of accuracy, timeliness or completeness.
We could not confirm from Halton’s page how far back the map goes or how often it refreshes, so check the map’s own notes. Halton Regional Police also publish crime statistics and mid-year and annual reports on their website.
How to use the Halton crime map, step by step
- Open Halton Regional Police’s crime map page and choose the desktop or mobile version.
- Search for the street or neighbourhood in Oakville, Burlington, Milton or Halton Hills you want to check.
- Filter by call type. Break-ins and vehicle theft matter most for a home or driveway.
- Pick the longest time period the map allows; short windows can mislead.
- Remember that calls for service include non-criminal events, so not every point is a crime.
- Compare with an area you know well, and read the map’s disclaimer.
The limits of crime maps
- Calls are not crimes. Halton’s map shows calls for service, which include non-criminal events.
- Block-level locations. Rounding to the 100 block means points show a stretch of street, not a house.
- Reported crime only. Statistics Canada found that in 2019 only about 29% of victimizations were reported to police.
- Footfall. Shopping centres, GO stations and downtown strips see more people and so more calls than quiet residential streets.
- Map counts versus CSI. The CSI weights serious crime more heavily and is the official comparable measure.
Halton crime in 2025: the key numbers
| Police service | CSI 2020 | CSI 2024 | CSI 2025 | Violent CSI 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Halton Regional Police (Oakville, Burlington, Milton, Halton Hills) | 22.76 | 31.20 | 30.61 | 26.26 |
| Durham Regional Police | 40.85 | 47.19 | 43.18 | 59.20 |
| York Regional Police | 38.51 | 53.57 | 50.28 | 63.17 |
| Peel Regional Police | 38.07 | 57.01 | 59.41 | 76.90 |
| Toronto Police (City of Toronto) | 58.55 | 68.62 | 59.98 | 81.11 |
Halton’s CSI peaked at 32.25 in 2023 and has eased since. It is still about 34% higher than in 2020 (our arithmetic), so the region has not been immune to the wider rise in Ontario crime since the pandemic years.
Halton’s violent CSI of 26.26 is strikingly low: under a third of the City of Toronto’s 81.11 and about a quarter of the national violent CSI of 97.2. Its non-violent CSI, 32.60, is slightly higher than its violent score, which is unusual among the GTA services in the table.
The full release is on Statistics Canada’s website. Police-service CSI figures cover everyone the service polices, so they describe the region as a whole rather than any single town, street or neighbourhood. Smaller areas can also swing more from year to year.
