These terms of use apply to your use of canadacrimemap.com (“the site”), operated by GG Straps Limited, a company incorporated in Hong Kong (“we”, “us”, “our”). Please read them together with our disclaimer and privacy policy.
Effective date: 5 October 2026.
1. Acceptance
By using the site, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
2. Information only, not advice
The site provides general information about police-reported crime in Canada, based on official statistics. It is not legal, financial, insurance, real estate, security or other professional advice, and it is not a substitute for your own judgement or for advice from a qualified professional. Do not rely on the site alone when making decisions such as where to live, rent, buy or travel.
The site is not a police or emergency service. In an emergency call 911.
3. Data provided “as is”
Our figures come from third-party sources, mainly Statistics Canada and police open-data portals, as listed on our data sources page. Those sources describe crimes reported to police, which are only part of all crime, and they are published with time lags and later revisions. We work hard to reproduce and explain them accurately, but:
- the site and its content are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement;
- we do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of viruses or other harmful components;
- figures may change when the original publisher revises them, and there may be a delay before we update our pages.
Statistics Canada and the police services whose data we use do not endorse this site and are not responsible for our use of their data.
4. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GG Straps Limited, its directors, staff and contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss or damage, or for any loss of profits, data, property value or opportunity, arising out of or in connection with your use of, or inability to use, the site or its content, even if we were told such loss was possible.
The site is free to use, and you use it at your own risk.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law, including mandatory consumer protection laws in your province or territory.
5. Acceptable use
You may read, share links to and quote reasonable extracts from the site for personal, educational, journalistic or non-commercial purposes, with a link back to the page. You must not:
- scrape, crawl, copy or download the site’s content or data in bulk, or use it to build a competing product or for resale, without our written permission;
- use the site or its content to harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk or discriminate against any person, household, neighbourhood or group;
- present our estimates or rankings as official statistics, or suggest that we or any public body endorse you;
- interfere with the site’s operation or security, attempt to gain unauthorized access, or introduce malware;
- use the site in any way that breaks the law.
We may block access to anyone who breaks these rules.
6. Intellectual property
The text, explanations, page design, graphics and compilations on the site that we created are owned by GG Straps Limited and protected by copyright and other laws. “Canada Crime Map” and “Safety App Canada” are names we use for our products.
Third-party data remains the property of its publishers and is used under their licences, including the Statistics Canada Open Licence and the open government and Creative Commons licences listed on our data sources page. If you reuse that data, you must follow the original licence and attribution requirements, not these terms.
7. Links to other websites
The site links to official sources and may link to advertisers or affiliate partners. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. A link does not mean we endorse the website, or that it endorses us. See our advertising disclosure.
8. Safety App Canada
Our planned app, Safety App Canada, is not yet available. When it launches it will have its own terms of service and privacy policy, which will apply to the app instead of these terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Hong Kong, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your province. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the laws of the province or territory where you live, including the right to bring a claim in your local courts where those laws allow it.
10. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. The new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Severability
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest will remain in effect.
