The official Winnipeg crime map is the Winnipeg Police Service’s crime and calls-for-service map, which shows verified crimes (updated monthly with a two-month lag) and the past 10 weeks of calls for service, with locations limited to general areas. Statistics Canada’s 2025 figures put the Winnipeg metro area’s Crime Severity Index (CSI) at 113.4, down 9% on 2024 but still well above the Canadian figure of 75.0. The crime rate was flat at 7,899 incidents per 100,000 people.

Data: Statistics Canada, police-reported crime statistics for 2025 (released 22 July 2026), Crime Severity Index and incident-based crime tables. Figures are for the Winnipeg census metropolitan area. Map features described below were checked on the City of Winnipeg police website. What the official Winnipeg crime map shows

The Winnipeg Police Service publishes a crime and calls for service map on the City of Winnipeg website. It has two parts:

  • Crime maps. These show “verified crimes that have occurred in Winnipeg”, classified using Statistics Canada’s crime reporting standards. They are updated monthly with a two-month lag, which gives police time to check the data.
  • Calls for service map. This covers calls to 911 and the police non-emergency line that are entered for dispatch, plus officer-generated events, in-person reports and online reports. It shows the past 10 weeks, is reviewed weekly and can change as information is updated.

You can filter calls for service by event type, community and neighbourhood, with colour-coded density by neighbourhood. For privacy, the police say actual locations “have been limited to general areas” and some event types are grouped into generic categories. A user guide is available on the same page.

Keep in mind that a call for service is not the same as a crime. Many calls turn out to be non-criminal, which is why the verified crime maps are the better guide to actual offences.

How to use the Winnipeg crime map, step by step

  1. Open the Winnipeg Police crime and calls for service map page and read the user guide.
  2. Start with the crime maps for verified offences, then use the calls for service map for a sense of recent police activity.
  3. Select the community or neighbourhood you are interested in.
  4. Filter by crime or event type. Break-ins and vehicle theft matter most for a home; robbery and assault for walking routes.
  5. Compare with neighbouring areas and with an area you already know.
  6. Remember the two-month lag on the crime maps before assuming a quiet recent period.

The limits of crime maps

  • General areas, not addresses. Locations are generalized, so incidents can appear grouped together.
  • Calls are not crimes. The calls for service map reflects demand on police, not confirmed offences.
  • Reported crime only. Statistics Canada found that only about 29% of victimizations were reported to police in 2019.
  • Footfall. Downtown, shopping, nightlife and transit areas record more incidents because more people are there.
  • Map counts versus CSI. The CSI weights serious crime more heavily. Winnipeg’s 2025 severity fell sharply while the overall crime rate was flat.

Winnipeg crime in 2025: the key numbers

Measure Winnipeg CMA 2025 Winnipeg CMA 2024 Canada 2025
Crime Severity Index 113.4 125.2 75.0
Violent CSI 170.1 188.5 97.2
Crime rate per 100,000 7,899 7,924 5,585
Homicide rate per 100,000 2.48 (23 victims) 4.67 1.61
Robbery per 100,000 297 (2,746) 321 55
Break and enter per 100,000 502 (4,646) 637 262
Motor vehicle theft per 100,000 355 (3,287) 402 201

2025 was a year of real improvement. The homicide rate nearly halved, break-ins fell about 21% and car theft about 12% by rate (our arithmetic). The CSI is now at its lowest since 2017.

Winnipeg still had the fifth-highest CSI of Canada’s metro areas in 2025 and the highest of any large metro area. Its robbery rate was more than five times the national rate, and its car theft rate was the second-highest of any metro area after Red Deer.

The full figures are in Statistics Canada’s 2025 crime release and its Crime Severity Index table. Remember that a metro area’s figures blend busy city centres with quieter suburbs, so they describe the region as a whole, not any one street.
