The Burnaby crime map is the City of Burnaby’s Property Crime Dashboard, an official interactive map built with the Burnaby RCMP that shows five property crime types by hundred block and is updated monthly. For the bigger picture, Statistics Canada put the Burnaby RCMP’s 2025 Crime Severity Index (CSI) at 68.70, about 8% below Canada’s 75.0 and about 18% below the Vancouver metro area’s 83.5.

Data: Statistics Canada, police-reported crime statistics for 2025 (released 22 July 2026), CSI for police services in British Columbia (Table 35-10-0063-01), CSI by census metropolitan area (Table 35-10-0026-01) and incidents by violation (Table 35-10-0177-01). Dashboard and police pages were checked on the City of Burnaby and Burnaby RCMP websites on 13 October 2026. We link to the dashboard and police reports but do not reproduce their figures. Percentages not in the release are our own arithmetic. Updated 13 October 2026.

What is the Burnaby crime map?

The Burnaby crime map is the Property Crime Dashboard, launched in December 2025, a free online map run by the City of Burnaby with data from the Burnaby RCMP, showing where selected property crimes were reported and how often. It is linked from the city’s Property Crime Dashboard page and from the Burnaby RCMP crime statistics page.

A crime map is a map of individual incidents reported to police. The Crime Severity Index is something different: Statistics Canada’s annual measure of the volume and seriousness of police-reported crime, set at 100 for Canada in 2006. The map shows where; the CSI shows how much and how serious. Our Crime Severity Index explainer covers the method.

What does the Burnaby Property Crime Dashboard show?

The Burnaby Property Crime Dashboard shows five property crime types, according to the City of Burnaby:

  • Theft of auto (a vehicle stolen)
  • Theft from auto (items stolen from a vehicle)
  • Break and enter, business
  • Break and enter, residence
  • Break and enter, other

The dashboard’s terms say locations are the hundred block where the incident happened, are considered offset, and should not be read as pointing to a specific person or property. Personal details are excluded. The map does not include violent crime, fraud or shoplifting, so it is a tool for parking and home-security decisions rather than a full picture of personal safety.

How do I use the Burnaby crime map, step by step?

  1. Open the City of Burnaby Property Crime Dashboard page and launch the dashboard. Read and close the welcome note, which contains the terms of use.
  2. Use the Date Range Selector in the top-right corner. By default it shows the latest month, which is too short to judge an area.
  3. Use the Crime Type Selector to choose what matters to you: residential break-ins for a home, theft of and from autos for street or underground parking, business break-ins for a shop or office.
  4. Zoom to the block you care about, such as a rental near Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed or Edmonds, and compare it with a part of Burnaby you already know, using the same dates and types.
  5. For violent crime and the full offence list, read the Burnaby RCMP quarterly reports (see below).

The same approach works across Canada; see our guide to checking crime in your neighbourhood, the Vancouver crime map guide to VPD GeoDASH , the Surrey crime map and the Victoria crime map.

Where can I find Burnaby RCMP crime statistics?

The Burnaby RCMP publishes quarterly crime statistics tables on its crime statistics page, which on 13 October 2026 listed reports from January 2024 to June 2026, plus a 2025 annual report and the detachment’s 2023–2026 strategic plan.

Each quarterly table compares the quarter with the same quarter of the previous year and splits counts into four police districts (D1 to D4) plus “unknown”. The rows cover homicide, violent crimes (assault, robbery, sexual offences and others), property crimes (break and enter, theft of and from vehicles, shoplifting, fraud, mischief and others), other Criminal Code offences and drug offences. The four districts match the detachment’s community police offices:

Burnaby RCMP district Community police office Address
District 1 Hastings-Brentwood #104-4191 Hastings Street
District 2 Lougheed #178-9855 Austin Avenue
District 3 Southeast 7191 Arcola Way
District 4 Southwest 4501 Kingsborough Street

Source: Burnaby RCMP, community police offices page, checked 13 October 2026.

The quarterly tables are preliminary police counts by date of occurrence, so they will not match Statistics Canada’s annual figures exactly.

What are the limits of the Burnaby crime map?

The Burnaby crime map covers only five property crime types at approximate locations, so it cannot tell you an area’s overall crime level, its violent crime or its long-term trend.

  • Property crime only. Assaults, robbery, fraud and shoplifting are not on the map.
  • Approximate locations. Incidents are placed at hundred-block level and are considered offset.
  • Reported crime only. Statistics Canada found that only about 29% of victimizations in Canada were reported to police in 2019.
  • Footfall. Malls, SkyTrain stations and large parkades record more incidents because more people and cars pass through, not because residents nearby face more risk.
