Is there an official crime map for Red Deer?
Yes, Red Deer has an official crime map: the City of Red Deer’s “Crime Map” page embeds an RCMP map that shows crime over the past 14 days that generated a police report. The map itself is published on the RCMP’s ArcGIS account under the title “City of Red Deer Crime Map / Carte du Crime” and is maintained by the Alberta RCMP. You can open it on the City of Red Deer crime map page or use the “Fullscreen Crime Map” link on that page.
The map began as a pilot by the City of Red Deer and the Red Deer RCMP in 2019, and the City’s 2019 Q&A backgrounder is still linked from the page. Because the map’s owner publishes no open licence for the data, we do not copy figures from it; this guide explains how to use it and puts it next to the official annual statistics.
What does the Red Deer crime map show?
The Red Deer crime map shows property crime that resulted in a police report, at an approximate point rather than an exact address. According to the City’s crime-mapping backgrounder, the categories are:
- break and enter (residential and commercial);
- theft from a motor vehicle;
- theft of a motor vehicle;
- mischief, including vandalism;
- theft over or under $5,000, including bicycle thefts.
The backgrounder says the map is updated daily, that an incident fitting more than one category appears once under its most serious category, and that a report of suspicious activity may not appear at all. The RCMP’s own description of the map on ArcGIS also mentions missing persons and high-crime areas. It is a crime-prevention tool, not a full record of crime in Red Deer.
How do I check crime near an address in Red Deer?

- Check again later. The window is only 14 days, so look a few times over several weeks before drawing conclusions.
- Add the annual picture. Use Statistics Canada’s figures, summarised in our guide is Red Deer safe?, for trends the map cannot show.

The Red Deer CMA averaged about 19 break-ins and 16 vehicle thefts per 14 days in 2025, based on 501 break-ins and 417 motor vehicle thefts reported for the year (our calculation from Statistics Canada counts).
Treat this as a guide only. The CMA covers the City of Red Deer and surrounding communities (about 115,000 people, our estimate from Statistics Canada counts and rates), while the map covers the Red Deer RCMP detachment’s area. Our data set has no 2025 Red Deer figures for theft from vehicles or mischief, so we do not estimate those.

What are the limits of the Red Deer crime map?
- Short window. Fourteen days is a snapshot; one busy week can make a street look worse than it is.
- Reported crime only. In 2019 only about 29% of victimizations in Canada were reported to police (Statistics Canada).
- Approximate points. Locations are moved to protect privacy, so a point is not a specific home or business.
- Busy places show more. Shopping areas, the downtown and transit stops draw many visitors, so they record more incidents without being riskier for residents.
- CSI is not a safety score. Statistics Canada warns it is not a universal indicator of safety; see our Crime Severity Index explainer.
