Does Lethbridge have a crime map?
Yes, the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) publishes an online crime map as part of its open data site, showing up to 365 days of selected occurrence types in the City of Lethbridge. The map opens from the police Crime Mapping page, which links to the “Lethbridge Police Service Open Data – Crime Mapping” site.
An occurrence is an incident reported to police, which can be criminal or non-criminal. The Lethbridge Police Service notes that “not all police activity is in response to crime”. The map is therefore a guide to the type of police activity near a street, not a crime rate.
The police list these rules for the map (checked 20 October 2026):
- Approximate locations. Each point is relocated to the nearest intersection to anonymize the incident, and no personal or identifying information is included.
- Reported dates. Dates and times reflect when an occurrence was reported, not when it happened.
- City only. Only occurrences inside Lethbridge, reported to LPS, with a known location appear; incidents on provincial roads outside LPS jurisdiction do not.
- Daily refresh. Data is refreshed every 24 hours and may change without notice.
- Use with care. LPS cautions against using the data to draw conclusions about the safety of a particular area, and any commercial use of the data is prohibited.
Because commercial use is prohibited, we link to the map rather than reproduce figures from it. The numbers in this guide come from Statistics Canada.
How do I use the Lethbridge crime map?
- Open the map from the LPS Crime Mapping page and allow it to load the open data site.
- Choose one occurrence type, such as break and enter or theft from vehicle, instead of viewing everything at once.
- Zoom to the intersection nearest the address you care about; remember each point is approximate.
- Use the full 365 days where possible, because a single month can be misleading in a city of about 142,000 people.
- Compare with the city-wide picture below and with the Lethbridge crime rate guide, which covers the official numbers in more depth.
Occurrences cluster where people gather: the downtown core, shopping areas and main roads. A dot does not make a street unsafe, and a quiet area on the map is not a guarantee. Our guide on how to check crime in your neighbourhood explains the limits of police maps.
