The official Edmonton crime map is the Edmonton Police Service’s Community Safety Data Portal, which maps reported occurrences from the past year, refreshed daily and moved to the nearest intersection. Statistics Canada’s 2025 figures put the Edmonton metro area’s Crime Severity Index (CSI) at 95.6, down 7% on 2024 but still above the Canadian figure of 75.0. The crime rate was 7,463 incidents per 100,000 people, up 2%.
Data: Statistics Canada, police-reported crime statistics for 2025 (released 22 July 2026), Crime Severity Index and incident-based crime tables. Figures are for the Edmonton census metropolitan area, which includes surrounding communities as well as the city. Map features described below were checked on the Edmonton Police Service website and data portal. Comparisons and percentages not in the release are our own arithmetic. Updated 5 October 2026.

What the official Edmonton crime map shows
The Edmonton Police Service’s neighbourhood crime mapping page points to its Community Safety Data Portal, which EPS describes as a platform “designed to increase transparency, facilitate community engagement, and support the safety of our citizens and our city”.
From the portal’s own dataset notes:
- Recent occurrences cover the last 365 days, and a separate historic layer covers roughly one to three years back.
- Refresh: data is refreshed every day, with a 24 to 48 hour delay.
- Locations: to anonymize incidents, each point is relocated to the closest intersection and should be treated as approximate.
- Scope: a selected list of occurrence types reported to EPS within Edmonton. Unfounded and non-reportable reports are excluded.
EPS also publishes a help guide and FAQ on the portal, and says more datasets will be added over time. Check the portal’s notes for the exact list of occurrence types currently shown.
How to use the Edmonton crime map, step by step
- Go to the EPS neighbourhood crime mapping page and open the Community Safety Data Portal.
- Search for the address or neighbourhood you want to check and zoom to a sensible radius, such as a 10-minute walk.
- Filter by occurrence type. For a home, focus on break-ins and vehicle crime; for a commute, look at person-related incidents.
- Use the full 365 days rather than the last few weeks, which can be misleading in either direction.
- Check a second area you already know as a comparison.
- Read the help guide and FAQ before drawing firm conclusions.
The limits of crime maps
- Intersection offsets. Because points are moved to the nearest intersection, several incidents on one block can appear as a single cluster at a junction.
- Reported crime only. In 2019, only about 29% of victimizations in Canada were reported to police, according to Statistics Canada.
- Busy places record more. Downtown, shopping, nightlife and transit areas see more incidents because many more people pass through them. That does not translate directly into risk per visit.
- Map counts versus CSI. A map counts incidents; the Crime Severity Index (CSI) is Statistics Canada’s measure that weights them by seriousness. The two can tell different stories, as Edmonton’s 2025 numbers show.
Edmonton crime in 2025: the key numbers
Edmonton’s crime severity fell in 2025: Statistics Canada put the Edmonton CMA’s CSI at 95.6, down from 102.6 in 2024. The Edmonton census metropolitan area (CMA) is the City of Edmonton plus its surrounding communities.
| Measure | Edmonton CMA 2025 | Edmonton CMA 2024 | Canada 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crime Severity Index | 95.6 | 102.6 | 75.0 |
| Violent CSI | 110.5 | 108.2 | 97.2 |
| Crime rate per 100,000 | 7,463 | 7,320 | 5,585 |
| Homicide rate per 100,000 | 1.88 (32 victims) | 2.18 | 1.61 |
| Motor vehicle theft per 100,000 | 335 (5,680) | 398 | 201 |
| Break and enter per 100,000 | 414 (7,035) | 441 | 262 |
| Shoplifting ($5,000 or under) per 100,000 | 1,114 (18,906) | 889 | 502 |
The overall severity score fell, driven by lower non-violent severity (down from 101.3 to 90.4), with fewer car thefts (about 16% lower by rate) and break-ins (about 6% lower). The crime rate still rose 2%, mainly because shoplifting jumped about 25% (our arithmetic). The violent CSI edged up.
Edmonton had the highest CSI of Canada’s six largest metro areas in 2025, ahead of Vancouver (83.5) and Calgary (61.7). Its 2025 CSI is the lowest in the 2015–2025 series published by Statistics Canada.
The full figures are in Statistics Canada’s 2025 crime release and its Crime Severity Index table. Remember that a metro area’s figures blend busy city centres with quieter suburbs, so they describe the region as a whole, not any one street.
