Does Guelph have a crime map?
Yes, the Guelph Police Service publishes an interactive crime map on its website that shows Guelph police calls for service, which can be checked by call type, by area of the city and by date. The map opens from the police Crime Map page.
A call for service is any request for police attendance or action. It is not the same as a confirmed crime: some calls turn out to be non-criminal, and one incident can create several calls. A crime map is therefore best used to see what kinds of police activity happen near a street, not to calculate a crime rate.
The Guelph Police Service also publishes yearly occurrence data files for the City of Guelph from 2014 to 2025. The police note that the files do not include every occurrence type, such as major crimes still under investigation or before the courts. We link to the map and the files rather than reproducing figures from them; the numbers in this guide come from Statistics Canada.
How do I use the Guelph crime map?
- Open the map from the Guelph Police Service Crime Map page (“View the interactive crime map”).
- Choose a call type, for example break and enter, theft from vehicle or mischief, instead of viewing everything at once.
- Pick an area of the city or zoom to the street you care about.
- Set a date range long enough to show a pattern; a single week can be misleading.
- Compare with the city-wide picture below and with the Guelph crime rate guide, which covers the official numbers in more depth.
Calls in busy commercial areas and around the downtown core tend to be more frequent simply because more people pass through them. A dot on the map does not make a street unsafe, and a quiet area on the map is not a guarantee. Our guide on how to check crime in your neighbourhood explains the limits of police maps.
