Barrie Police Service publishes an official crime map, the Community Safety Data Portal, which shows reported crimes from the past 60 days at approximate locations. It is the quickest way to see recent incidents near an address. For the bigger picture, the Barrie census metropolitan area (CMA) had the lowest Crime Severity Index in Canada in 2025, 46.9, according to Statistics Canada.
Data: Statistics Canada, police-reported crime statistics for 2025 (released 22 July 2026), Tables 35-10-0026-01 and 35-10-0177-01, Barrie CMA; Barrie Police Service 2025 Annual Report; Barrie Police crime map and online reporting pages, checked 21 October 2026. Comparisons and percentages not in these sources are our own arithmetic. Updated 21 October 2026.

What is the Barrie crime map?
The Barrie crime map is the Barrie Police Service’s Community Safety Data Portal, an interactive map of reported crimes in selected categories, published on barriepolice.ca. Barrie Police describes it as part of its effort “to share information about community safety and security.”
What the official page says about the map (checked 21 October 2026):
- Period: only the past 60 days of information is available, and the map cannot be filtered by year.
- Crime types: separate tabs at the top of the map for different types of incidents.
- Location: icons sit “only in the general vicinity” of each crime, not at the exact address.
- Coverage: only reported crimes that have a geographic reference and coordinates.
- Disclaimer: the data is provided “AS IS,” and visitors must tick that they agree to the disclaimer before the map opens.
Barrie Police also cautions against using the map to make decisions or comparisons about safety or crime levels, or to rebuild official crime statistics. The page gives no open-data licence, so we link to the map and do not reproduce figures from it. For annual numbers, see our guide is Barrie safe?
How do I use the Barrie crime map?
- Open the portal. Go to the Community Safety Data Portal page on barriepolice.ca, read the disclaimer, tick the box and click “Proceed.”
- Pick a crime type. Use the tabs at the top to switch between incident types.
- Set the dates. Choose a date range inside the last 60 days. A full 60 days gives a steadier picture than a single week.
- Zoom to the street. Treat each icon as “somewhere nearby,” not as a specific house.
- Compare with an area you know. Look at the same crime types and dates for a second neighbourhood before drawing conclusions.
- Add the long view. Check the yearly figures below and our guide to checking crime in your neighbourhood.
What does the Barrie crime map not show?
The Barrie crime map does not show long-term trends, unreported crime or exact addresses, so it works best as a recent snapshot rather than a safety score.
- No history. Sixty days is short. For trends, use the Statistics Canada series and the police annual report below.
- Reported crime only. In Statistics Canada’s 2019 victimization survey, only about 29% of incidents were reported to police.
- Approximate points. Busy places such as shopping plazas, downtown streets and transit stops always show more icons because more people pass through them.
- One police service. The map comes from the Barrie Police Service. Barrie Police directs incidents on provincial highways, such as Highway 400 and Highway 11, to the Ontario Provincial Police.
How safe is Barrie compared with other Ontario cities?
Barrie had the lowest Crime Severity Index (46.9) and the lowest crime rate (3,777 per 100,000) of Ontario’s 15 census metropolitan areas in 2025, by our calculation from Statistics Canada data. The Crime Severity Index (CSI) is Statistics Canada’s measure of the volume and seriousness of police-reported crime, set to 100 for Canada in 2006. The crime rate is the number of Criminal Code incidents (excluding traffic) per 100,000 people.

|---|---|---|---|---|
| Barrie (CMA) | 46.9 | −3% | 3,777 | −4% |
| Ottawa (Ont. part) | 50.6 | −6% | 4,212 | −2% |

| Ontario | 57.2 | −6% | 4,296 | −4% |
| Canada | 75.0 | −5% | 5,585 | −2% |
Barrie’s CSI was about 18% below Ontario’s and about 37% below Canada’s (our calculation). These counts differ from Statistics Canada’s because the CMA also includes neighbouring municipalities served by other police services, and the two use different counting rules. The report gives a clearance rate of 25% for property crime and 77% for violent crime in 2025; these are Barrie Police’s own measures and are not comparable with Statistics Canada’s weighted clearance rate.
Is crime in Barrie going up or down?
Crime severity in Barrie is edging down: the Barrie CMA’s CSI fell for a second year in 2025, to 46.9, about 11% below its 2019 high of 53.0, according to Statistics Canada.
| Year | Barrie CSI | Canada CSI |
|---|---|---|

| 2023 | 49.0 | 81.3 |
