The crime rate counts Criminal Code incidents (excluding traffic) per 100,000 people. The Belleville–Quinte West census metropolitan area (CMA) covers the City of Belleville, policed by the Belleville Police Service, and the City of Quinte West (Trenton), policed by the Ontario Provincial Police Quinte West Detachment. Based on Statistics Canada’s incident count and rate, about 125,000 people live in the CMA (our estimate). Our Crime Severity Index explainer covers the method.
